- If you are served by GTE there is a number listed in your
- phone directory under the heading of "Rights and
- Responsibilities." There should be a listing for the local
- manager in your area as well as a listing for the GTE action
- line. It should also contain the number for your state
- regulatory agency, which you can call as a last resort.
- As far as them charging you, they have to find trouble
- inside your business or residence before they can charge you
- and if you are paying for lines keeper they can't charge you
- even if it is in your inside wire.
- If you do not hear the popping on regular voice calls, the
- trouble is not on your phone line. Since you connect to BBS'
- with out the problem this clears both your line and your
- modem.
- The trouble may be in the trunking between your serving
- office and the office that serves your ISP. Remember there
- may be more than 1 trunk group involved depending on how the
- trunking is routed. The trunks can be checked for noise
- using the CATHI automated test system if the distant end is
- equipped with a 105 responder. Some connecting companies
- don't have 105 responders and CATHI can only test for trunk
- levels.
- Follow the instructions in the front of your phone book and
- keep escalating the report until you get it repaired.
-

- >routing thru a particular path in the switching system?
-
- No you can't force a path.
